Shark Tanks Robert Herjavec shouts out An Orange Moon!
Robert Herjavec dropped some unexpected wisdom on us at the Small Business Revolution Film premiere party Wednesday, September 30th at the Aria event center.
As Ty & I stepped out of the limo, we were greeted by a 6’5″ “secret service” type gentleman, complete with earpiece and black suit; there he ushered us along the red carpet into the Great room of Minnesota’s Aria event space for the private champagne toast.
We stepped through the doors and there he was! Robert Herjavec! My favorite shark, resplendent in a French cut double breasted black blazer, a crisp white shirt (no doubt custom made) silk flat panel front “Gentleman’s Grey” slacks and black Italian loafers. I call his look, “Hollywood Cocktail Casual.”
I walked straight toward him, extended my hand and introduced myself. We both laughed as I thanked him for “shouting out” An Orange Moon on “Squawk Box,” a show that airs early mornings on MSNBC. As a matter of fact I received a text from a Deluxe staffperson at an ungodly hour, reporting the shout out.
Yes he was gracious. And yes he really is the nicest shark, but beyond all that, Robert shared some really interesting life moments with us. Like the moment he recalled he was in attendance at some cool, hip, LA party, where he reports standing in the corner looking bored over his martini glass at the other guests. He states a woman walked over to him and introduced herself as the Mayor of the town. He then claimed she quickly sized him up and said “these aren’t your kind of people are they?” He replied, “no.”
Herjavec goes on to report he’d just become rich and was “feeling himself. “I thought I was better than everyone at the party because I had money. Boy was I wrong!” says Robert. The Mayor raised her hand and pointed her index finger to my face and said, “let me tell you something SONNY, these ARE your type of people! Now get out there and say hello to each and every one of them! Standing here thinking you’re too good– Get over yourself!!”
According to Robert, the moral of this story is we all start from humble beginnings, and as an entrepreneur building your business, you never know who is who or what is what. Just do your best to stay respectful and humble! And with that, the music started, I winked at my husband, and darted out to shake hands and and take as many photos with all my new friends as possible! Thanks for the words of wisdom Robert Herjavec. We all need a reminder from time to time.
